Suspend The Presidency
New York Times: The Case Against Donald Trump
Excellent statement. This calamity raises a question about continuation of the US's current form of government in which a single individual can harm a nation and its people by exploiting loopholes and faults in constitutional protections against abuse of power.
Defense against the corruptibility of The Presidency with tri-partite governance has failed without a precedent of this scale, previous failures are hardly comparable to this one.
Mr. Trump's implicit threat to not step aside if he loses the election, that the current system of power transfer could be over-ridden with autocratic measures, poses the greatest risk for that refusal so closely corresponds to how he has abused presidential power while in office, without correlative countermeasures of the two other branches.
Suspension of The Presidency, even anticipation of its replacement with a more accountable office, without royal perogative, should be considered, debated, voted upon by the populace as a constitutional amendment, if necessary by write-in notation on ballots.
This president has made it clear he does not intend to go quietly, will instead remain in power by hook and crook, with protection by his armed law enforcers.
In 1776 this royal autocracy of irrefutable power was fought by rebels who believed the citizenry should hold absolute power. That fight was against all those who enjoyed royal privilege bestowed by the potentate, backed by the military and police. Time to repeat that overturning.
