Frank use of spy, spies and spying, rather than deceptively polite surveillance and intelligence is most welcome.
Spying is a treacherous, dangerous, dirty, violent, criminal and murderous enterprise, and the polite terminology is itself a disinformation methodology to couture the venality.
Surveillance and intelligence have become habitually used to soften the hard truth of spying, whether on enemies or the citizenry, by governments, corporations, institutions and individuals.
The unwary, unwitting and witting participants and apologists in spying operations by invocation of the defusing terms may not want to believe they are useful idiots for the spymasters who have no reservation in sacrificing them to errors and omissions of officers and their agencies.
To be sure, vicious enemies spy, noble nations gather intelligence, but both are doing the same by all means foul and cruel.
Spy novels and movies abound, as do polite reports of the godawful beastly.
