This bizarre story, and screwball indictment, is not believable, so far at least. Diane Toebbe has a PhD in anthropology so not a submissive partner, more likely the smarter if not the stronger. The family moved from place to place across the US before settling in Maryland in 2020.

Her father is reported to be a fan of submarines, so she grew up with a handy grasp of the machines and that may have led her to Jonathan.

Those who work in national security industries readily acknowledge the restrictions placed on their life styles to assure protection of classified information. They are also more intimately familiar than most of us of the opportunism and benefits of going inside and outside the industries, particular for those with access to the highest grade of classification.

Political appointees and lobbyists to natsec agencies and industries are seen as particularly obnoxious to long-time workers getting by on comparatively modest salaries and extremely tight control of personal liberties placed upon entire families and relatives.

The Toebbes probably walked into a trap of the kind run by counterintelligence offices with more devious tools than the couple reportedly claimed to know about and intended to avoid.

Whatever the feds are putting out is not to be taken as the whole story, "that's classified."
