NYC reportedly has more billionaires than any other city and its non-profits provide a useful service for avoiding or minimizing taxation of the super-wealthy at all levels of government. Few major donors are dismissed by the NGOs due to the harm that would cause, indeed it would be suicidal.
Far better is to tut-tut, issue statements, ratchet up the publicity in hopes of seducing new donors with open arms, private dinners, a promise of naming this or that, leaving the deal making to the city's vast infrastructure of compliancy lawyers, bankers, accountants, advisors, designers, publicists, private school recommenders, and sidebars of well-behaved household help, couturists, physicians, therapists, barbers, shoppers, chefs, tailors, massagers, event planners, string quartets, belly dancers, Broadway celebs, grand soirees out on the island or upstate or seaborne thematic honky-tonks.
This choreographic embrace of filty rich like weird-ethicist Epstein or fake-grabbing Trump is historic, baked inside, essential New York New York. Forgetabout getting rid of it. But you knew that, otherwise you would have left town way before the Covid protection racket got you in its tax escapist claws.
