A consequence for national security is the widespread efforts of companies to make maximum use of advanced technology to further their economic aspirations, in particular to engage customers to seek their output through digital technologies that are not terribly secure against misuse.
The openess required to solicit and service customers provides avenues for attack by US opponents both by access to the tech as well as the workers who operate the tech.
A small example of this is the increasing number of tech insiders leaking highly classified data for personal aggrandizement no matter the application of non-disclosure agreements intended to prevent publication of secrets.
This is possible due to insufficient technological controls over the data and over-reliance on methods developed for hardcopy and other non-digital information formats.
It is also facilitated by the large number of new employees of intelligence agencies and commercial firms to handle the digital workload of government and businesses.
Many if not most of these new hires have little experience with handling classified information, indeed, many have backgrounds where open sharing is the norm.
It may take a generation or more to devise and implement security controls commensurate with the rapidly changing of technology and the desire of companies to be as inviting as possible to customers.
AI is almost certain to lead to breeches of national security beyond the defense capabilities fast becoming inept.
Corporate and military espionage is a standard, has been and always will be. If it's not being conducted, some one is not doing their job.
These things have been known openly for probably the last century.
