As an Empire State Development project no way to know what this boondoggle actually costs, who of the many involved made a killing, what expense will be dumped on taxpayers, how safe it is (NYC DoB not involved).
ESD continues to be a lucractive racket for bypassing local control, although it serves as a useful model to follow for those organized RE locals who yearn to be rid of municipal review and responsibility to the citizenry which pays for the profiteering, subsidies, caretaking, policing, fire protecting, health-protecting, maintaining and the rest of services which follow construction and development.
This accounts for the billions of dollars now advocated for public projects, with infrastructure leading the gold rush. State agencies have become gigantic slush funds for development, builders, designers, unions, bankers, insurances, investors, political campaigns, forever begging for more slush or else must reduce services, harm the poor, destroy lives, lose jobs, crime will rise, protests increase, wealth will flee, the city will die.
Oh, the city is dying from Covid while the Empire State's generosity continues unabated to building white elephants ever taller and bigger and costlier, with so few paying full taxes to combat pandemic and other ravages.
