Constitutional Convention in Order
How to Reform the Presidency After the Wreckage of Trump

US constitutional democracy has evolved into a constitutional monarchy, if not autocracy, by placing excessive power in the presidency. That needs to be changed by constitutional amendment and by popular vote.
The change should include easier means to replace the president or to counter abuse other than by impeachment. Perhaps closer to a parliamentary model of interceding when abuse occurs.
Further, states need to have more say in federal government policies than through Congress and the Supreme Court. The original federation of states has been diminished by centralization and deference to the presidency's political, military and economic power.
Further, seniority in Congress and lifetime appointment to the Supreme Court needs to be revised to be able hold all officials accountable to the citizenry not to the laws and regulations which have become too complex and favorable to the status quo, especially to lawyers and judges.
What has happened in the history of the US is that system derived from the Old Country hierarchical tradition, modified for a small new nation with a comparatively small English-speaking population along the East Coast, does not fit a continental-broad land with over 300 million diverse, multilingual people.
Maybe hard to swallow after current trauma but a constitutional convention may be in order for the disputatious citizenry to have a say about how they want their nation governed. That might put off a looming repeat of a near-suicidal Civil War or military coup of an uncontrollable Commander in Chief.
