Commerical press is hardly the only means to disclose out of control official secrets
I Am Guilty of Violating the Espionage Act

An admirable opinion which fails to recognize that the privileged press is hardly the only means to disclose out of control official secrets. WikiLeaks originally aimed to do what the press was failing, and still failing to do, excessive claim to be the top challenger of government abuse.
Press means commercial press, and it is regulated by business practices and can be threatened by threats against its business.
Among others, Barton Gellman in a recent book extensively describes his negotiations with the Washington Post for support in safeguarding confidential data and legal protection against the USG.
The team that published Snowden's material also told of negotiating with US and UK authorities about what material could be published.
An alleged recording between Assange and the US State Department recently published shows how negotiations went to restrict disclosure of the State Department cables.
What gets little attention in the commercial press is how much official information is published without press involvement by those who do not conform to press standards and thereby can flaunt press credentials, actually a type of marketing publicity.
What has evolved in the US and to some extent elsewhere is how the press has become the fourth branch of government, not merely the glamorizing "Fourth Estate."
Assange rightly defied the press in WikiLeaks, the "Wiki," before journalists inside and outside commercialized it. So too for Snowden, Poitras, Manning, Winner.
