Indoor Dining Will Shut Down in New York City Again

After examining several dozen of the Manhattan outdoor eateries a few words of caution:
Check that there is generous ventilation and the upper part of the huts are not enclosed with clear plastic or other materials which inhibits air movement.
Servers must wear masks properly covering nose and mouth, and so should diners when not eating or drinking. Too many persons drop their masks after ordering or between servings.
No smoking. Ask server to notify the violators.
Check passersby for mask wearing and take seats away from the sidewalk traffic.
Check that the huts have vehicular traffic warnings on their outside. Night-time is especially dangerous. If lacking go elsewhere.
Beware of excessive drinkers who may violate safety standards, whether diners, passersby, panhandlers, drivers, servers.
Check that huts are separated from other facilities by code-required 8 feet. A sidewalk square is usually 5-feet by 5-feet, so one and a half square clearance should be provided. Less than that will force passersby too close to diners.
Check that accessories, lighting, heating, service consoles, plants, decoration do not impinge on safety clearances. Wiring should be covered with shallow ramps no more than 2 inches high.
Be careful of spilled liquids and foodstuffs, which should be cleaned up immediately.
Make sure there are paths of egress free of blockage. Fires, fights, vehicular accidents occur regularly in public spaces. Hasty construction of huts suggests common faults.
